NovaStar CVT10-M is a multi-mode fiber converter that converts 10G optical signals to electrical signals — and electrical signals back to optical — so a sending card can drive an LED display over long distances without signal loss or electromagnetic interference. It is built around 2 × 10 Gbit/s optical ports e 10 × porte Gigabit Ethernet in a compact half-1U chassis, and it is the model most LED display projects choose when the sending card and the screen sit more than 100 m apart.
Risposta rapida: choose the NovaStar CVT10-M when both ends of your LED display link are within 300 m of each other and you are running OM3/OM4 multi-mode fiber. Choose the NovaStar CVT10-S instead when the cable run is longer than 300 m and single-mode fiber is available.
What Is the NovaStar CVT10-M Fiber Converter?
The CVT10 is a fiber-to-Ethernet media converter engineered specifically for LED display systems. Large LED screens are fed by a sending card or video processor, and the distance between that processor and the screen often exceeds what copper Cat6 cable can carry reliably. The CVT10-M solves that problem: it converts the data stream to light, transmits it over multi-mode fiber, and converts it back at the display side. Transmission is full-duplex, stable and not easily interfered with, which is why fiber remains the standard for long-distance LED display data links.
Two models share the same platform — the CVT10-S (single-mode) and the CVT10-M (multi-mode). This page covers the multi-mode CVT10-M, which ships with factory-installed, hot-swappable optical modules and a 300 m transmission distance.
NovaStar CVT10-M vs CVT10-S: Which Model Do You Need?
The two models are identical in port count, bandwidth, chassis and mounting options. The only real difference is the optical module and the fiber it accepts.

- Works in both directions — fiber in / Ethernet out, or Ethernet in / fiber out
- Two power connector options: a 3-pin power socket and a PowerCON socket (100–240 V~, 50/60 Hz, 0.7 A)
- 1 × USB Type-B control port for firmware upgrades with NovaLCT V5.4.0 or later (not for cascading)
- Front-panel status LEDs for power (PWR), running state (STAT), optical ports (OPT1/OPT2), all 10 Ethernet ports and the CVT/DIS working mode
- Rack, horizontal or suspended mounting — a single unit is half-1U wide, and two units (or one unit plus the supplied connecting piece) combine into a 1U assembly
- Certified to RoHS, FCC, CE and IC
Two Working Modes: Fiber In / Ethernet Out and Ethernet In / Fiber Out
Use the MODE button on the front panel to switch working mode. CVT mode is the default and the only mode supported today; DIS mode is reserved for future use. In CVT mode, OPT1 is the master optical port and OPT2 acts as the backup port.
Fiber in and Ethernet out
Optical data enters through OPT1 and leaves as Ethernet streams. How many ports you can use depends on the sending device: if it has 8 or 16 Ethernet ports, the first 8 Ethernet ports of the CVT10-M are available; if it has 10 or 20 Ethernet ports, all 10 Ethernet ports of the CVT10-M are available. If ports 9 and 10 report as unavailable, they will be enabled by a future firmware upgrade.
Ethernet in and fiber out
All 10 Ethernet ports of the CVT10-M are available, and their combined data is transmitted out through the optical port. This is the mode used when the sending card is close to the converter and the LED screen is far away.

Installazione è Opzioni di Muntamentu
The CVT10-M is built for fast on-site installation. It can be placed horizontally, suspended, or mounted in a rack, and a single unit is only half-1U wide. Two CVT10 devices — or one CVT10 plus the connecting piece supplied in the box — combine into an assembly that is 1U in width, so a pair of converters occupies just one rack unit.
Fiber selection matters: use OM3 or OM4 multi-mode twin-core cable with LC connectors, and keep the run within 300 m. Insertion loss should stay at or below 0.2 dB and return loss at or above 45 dB for reliable operation.
Appricazzioni tipica
- Long-distance links between a sending card or video processor and an LED display cabinet
- Stadium, arena and perimeter LED screens where the control room sits far from the display
- Outdoor advertising LED screens with the media player in a separate equipment room
- Road crossings, multi-building sites and any installation where copper cable cannot reach
- Noise-sensitive environments where electromagnetic interference on Cat5e/Cat6 is a problem
The CVT10-M can be paired with NovaStar sending cards and processors such as the MCTRL4K, è cù u DIS-300 Ethernet port distributor when the signal needs to be split across more cabinets.

What is the difference between the NovaStar CVT10-M and the CVT10-S?
The CVT10-M uses a multi-mode optical module (850 nm, up to 300 m over OM3/OM4 fiber) and the CVT10-S uses a single-mode module (1310 nm, up to 10 km over OS1/OS2 fiber). Port count, bandwidth, chassis and mounting are identical, so the choice depends only on how far the signal has to travel and which fiber is installed on site.
What is the maximum transmission distance of the CVT10-M?
Up to 300 m over multi-mode fiber — OM3 or OM4, 50/125 μm, LC connectors. For runs longer than 300 m, use the single-mode CVT10-S.
How many Ethernet ports of the CVT10-M can I actually use?
Up to 10, depending on the direction and the sending device. With a 10- or 20-port input device, all 10 Ethernet ports of the CVT10-M are available; with an 8- or 16-port input device, ports 1–8 are available in the fiber-in direction. In the Ethernet-in direction, all 10 ports are always available.
Is the CVT10-M compatible with NovaStar sending cards such as the MCTRL4K?
Yes. The CVT10-M is designed to sit between a Novastar sending card or video processor and the LED display, and it works with the MCTRL4K and other NovaStar controllers that output Ethernet or optical signals. It is also a direct alternative to the Colorlight optic fiber media converter for the same job.
Does the CVT10-M support hot-swappable optical modules?
Yes. The optical modules are installed at the factory and are hot swappable, so a module can be replaced or reseated without powering the unit down.
How much does the NovaStar CVT10-M cost, and is it in stock?
The CVT10-M is listed at USD 713 per unit, with live pricing and stock shown at the top of this page. For multi-unit or project quantities, send your requirement through the contact form and our team will confirm the best price and lead time.
Cosa hè inclusu in a scatula?
1 × CVT10-M fiber converter, 1 × power cord, 1 × USB cable, 1 × Ethernet cable, 1 × supporting bracket A (with nuts), 1 × supporting bracket B (without nuts), 1 × connecting piece, 12 × M3×8 screws, 1 × assembling diagram and 1 × certificate of approval.
Which NovaLCT version do I need to update the CVT10-M?
NovaLCT V5.4.0 or later, connected to the USB Type-B control port on the front panel. The USB port is for program upgrades only and is not used for cascading.
